HISTORY
It started in 2004 with 40 cycle enthusiasts on a common mission--- fund research to find a reliable screening test for ovarian cancer and honor the life of Debbie Green Flamm, daughter, sister, wife, mother, teacher and friend, who succumbed to the disease at age 43. Eight years later, over one thousand individuals from five states ride for every single person touched by this disease. Since Ride to Change the Future™ was launched, the non-profit has donated over $1 million dollars to medical research in order to find an early detection test for ovarian cancer.
Ovarian cancer is known as the silent killer, but we must refuse to be quiet. Due to the lack of an early detection test, it takes a woman an average of six doctor visits before she is finally diagnosed and referred for treatment. Each year in the United States, more than21,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer and about 15,000 women die of the disease. It is the hope of Ovarian Cycle, Inc. to inspire others to take action.
Ovarian Cycle events continue to expand outside of Atlanta with events in Birmingham, Alabama, Tallahassee, Florida, Seattle, Washington and New York, New York. New for 2012 is the addition of a ride in Dallas, TX. RIDE TO CHANGE THE FUTURE ™ and READY? SET. RIDE! ™
The Ride to Change the Future™ and Ready? Set. Ride! ™ are indoor cycling training programs unique to Ovarian Cycle, Inc. These events are dedicated to raising funds to support early detection research for ovarian cancer. Participants must pay a registration fee and are required to raise donations for participation.
